What is tooth sensitivity?

Tooth sensitivity occurs when the softer dentine underneath hard tooth enamel becomes exposed to reveal microscopic channels that lead to the tooth nerve. When this exposed dentine comes into contact with hot or cold, sweet, sour or even your toothbrush it can trigger the nerve causing a short sharp pain.

What causes sensitive teeth?
  • Gum recession exposing dentine at the gum line.
  • Erosion caused by fizzy, sweet and/or acidic drinks.
  • Wearing away of enamel caused by over-enthusiastic brushing.
These factors can make your teeth hypersensitive to heat, cold, sweetness, acidity or just when brushing. Using Sensodyne 2-4 times daily in place of ordinary toothpaste will help relieve the pain of sensitive teeth.
