Calcium is an important element in the diet, being a structural component of the bones, teeth and soft tissues. It is an essential part of many of the body's metabolic processes, including proper blood clotting. It comprises approximately 1 to 2% of adult body weight, 99% of which is stored in the bones and teeth.
