Canesten Oral and Cream Duo is a combined oral and cream thrush treatment that is
suitable for men and women. It comprises one
Canesten Capsule and one handy 10g tube of
Canesten Thrush Cream.
A convenient pack for the treatment of thrush (vulvitis and balanitis). Canesten Duo is a combined oral and cream treatment specially suited to those with a busy lifestyle who prefer the convenience of a single oral capsule but also need the immediate soothing relief of an external cream.
The Canesten capsule is an effective single dose treatment for vaginal thrush or penile thrush. The thrush cream provides immediate soothing relief from the external itching and soreness caused by the infection.
- One Canesten Capsule: Fluconazole 150mg.
- Canesten Thrush Cream 10g: Clotrimazole 2% w/w.
How to use Canesten Duo
Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water (with or without food). The cream should only be used externally. Apply thinly and evenly over the affected area 2 or 3 times daily and rub in gently. Treatment should be continued until the symptoms disappear, or up to 1 week in women and up to 2 weeks in men.
Remember: thrush can be passed from partner to partner and back again. If you are treating yourself for thrush, it is advisable to treat your partner at the same time to avoid re-infection. Canesten Duo is suitable for treating both men and women.
Symptoms of thrush in
women include persistent burning or itching around the vagina, redness, swelling and soreness. There may also be a whitish discharge from the vagina. Symptoms of thrush in
men include redness of the penis and soreness. There may also be a tightening of the foreskin and a whitish discharge from the penis. Thrush in men can be tricky to diagnose, so if you are unsure then you should seek medical advice.
After taking the capsule initially, and using the cream 2-3 times daily, it usually takes around 3 days for the symptoms to disappear. However, unprotected intercourse should be avoided for up to 7 days. If both partners are infected, then Canesten Duo should be used for both partners, otherwise re-infection can occur. If symptoms persist after 7 days, then another course of treatment should be taken. If, after a second course of treatment, symptoms still persist, then you should consult your GP.
