Managing Blepharitis
Unfortunately there is no cure for blepharitis, it is a long-term condition and many sufferers will experience repeated episodes of the condition. The best way to manage blepharitis is to maintain good eye hygiene, primarily through a thorough cleaning routine.
If you suffer from blepharitis it is important to clean your eyes daily, even if you are not showing symptoms. Good hygiene will make the condition more bearable in the long-term and reduce the severity and frequency of episodes.
Eye Care Routine
If you are not sure how to clean your eyes and eyelids, please have a look at the advice set our below.
- Warm a compress (some cotton wool or a clean cloth or flannel) with hot water and apply to the closed eyelids for 5-10 minutes.
- Begin to gently rub your closed eyes to loosen up any crusting. Do this for 2-3 minutes and repeat if needed.
- Using a cloth, flannel or cotton bud moistened with warm water and some cleaning solution or baby shampoo, rub the edges of the eyelids to clean the lids and gently remove the loosened crusting.
- Repeat this process twice a day to begin with, reducing to once a day as conditions improve.
- Avoid wearing eye make-up.
