Step 3: NHS Prescription Charge Exemption

Please check the list below to see if you are exempt from NHS prescription charges and select the appropriate option. You may be required to provide proof of your exemption.

Are you exempt from NHS prescription charges?

No exemption from NHS prescription charges.
Are under 16 years of age.
Are in full-time education and aged 16, 17 or 18.
Are aged 60 or over.
Are pregnant or have had a baby in the previous 12 months and have a valid exemption certificate.
Have a listed medical condition and have a valid exemption certificate.
Have a continuing physical disability which means you cannot go out without help from another person and have a valid exemption certificate.
Have a valid prescription pre-payment certificate.
Are a war pensioner, the prescription is for your pensionable disablement and you have a valid war pension exemption certificate.
Are named on a current NHS Low Income Scheme HC2 certificate.
Your prescription is for free-of-charge contraceptives.
The patient or your partner is receiving Income Support (IS).
The patient or your partner is receiving Jobseekers Allowance (JSA (IB)).
Are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate.
The patient has a partner who receives Pension Credit guarantee credit (PCGC).

Please note that the Express Chemist prescription service is only available to residents of the United Kingdom. The prescription must be valid and prescribed by a UK registered practitioner.
