Immunological Faecal Occult Blood Test

• Simple test that can detect early colon cancer.
• This test is able to detect occult blood in low concentrations.
• The kit contains: 1 paper fecal sample collection strip, a sample collection device (with buffer solution and sample collection stick), 1 test card and an instruction manual (written in German and English). You may also like to wear protective gloves whilst using the kit. (Gloves are not provided in the kit)

Why is this test important?

Small traces of blood found in stools may not be visible to the human eye. These traces could be in indication of a number of disorders including; ulcers, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis and colorectal cancer. This test can detect the smallest traces of blood in a stool.
If your stool looks blood stained, this could be down to piles, fissures or an inflamed bowel. Even things like excess alcohol or aspirin consumption could lead to occult bleeding. However, it is always important to speak to your doctor if you can visibly see blood in your stools.

Using the test

Firstly, take note that a specimen should not be taken during or 3 days either side of menstrual bleeding. Do not eat or drink anything that could irritate the bowel 48 hours before taking the test.

Collection can be done using the paper sheet provided. It has pre-glued edges that can be stuck in place across the toilet. Make sure to not allow toilet water, urine or air-freshening products contaminate the sample. This may effect the results.
Once you have your sample ready, unscrew that cap of the sample collection device, pulling out the stick. Stick it into the sample in 3 places and replace it back into the buffer solution. Screw the cap back tightly and shake. Take the cassette out of the foil and put on a flat, dry surface. Break the tip off of the collection device (so it becomes a dropper). Squeeze two drops of the sample solution into the area to the right-hand side. This should reveal a violet band across the central band within 5 minutes if the test is working correctly. Make sure that the sample and the test are at room temperature.

Reading the results...
The test will reveal either 1 or 2 lines (one is the actual test line, the other is the control line). The control line will show the test is working correctly whilst the test line is the actual result from your sample. If both the test line and the control line show a stip of colour, the result is positive. 1 line on on the control side only is a negative result and a line on the test side only (or no lines at all) is an invalid result.

Important!

The origin of blood in faeces may be from other sources such as haemorrhoids, blood in the urine or gastric irritations.

If you result is positive, it is not conclusive that you have colon cancer but you will need to visit your doctor for further advice.

The results of this test should not be interpreted after 5 minutes have passed.

Do not eat or smoke whilst testing.

Do not use the cassette if the foil pouch has been opened or the test windows are damaged.

Make sure that you read the instruction leaflet all the way through before using the test.
